Joint statement – Austnet and oz.org
Tuesday, 30 July 2002
AustNet and OzOrg administrators would like to issue the following
statement:
Recently, there have been suggestions that the disruption in service
provided by the OzOrg IRC network is a result of direct attacks
instigated by members of the AustNet administrative community. We would
like to take the time to confirm that this is not true, and that both
networks have a sound working relationship. Any suggestions to the
contrary are both unfounded and quite humorous.
Both networks run separately, with different geographic coverage
serving different communities. To this end, both networks enjoy a
shared relationship of collaboration, and are unified in their goal of
providing the best service to both the Australian and the international
IRC community. Unfortunately, IRC networks have become the subject of
extended Denial of Service attacks throughout the world in recent years,
typically as a result of bored, untalented people who would rather throw
stones at something than join in and help to build and develop a community. While
we both fortify our networks, it is important that we share information
in order to prevent further outages. This is the relationship that
exists between the two networks.
